YMAA Andover (Andover, MA)
Shang Xia Zhi
Shang Xia Zhi is a White Crane style bare hand matching set between two partners. The basic pattern trains the four corners and uses cover and repel blocking techniques. Beginners at the 1st stripe level focus on body structure. At the intermediate level, students refine their structure and learn to develop intent and sense of distance.

The hooking pattern builds upon the basic pattern with an emphasis on sealing, sticking, and following techniques. The linking pattern has “free” elements that train students to build their reactions.

The continued practice and exploration of Shang Xia Zhi will help students understand the essence of a Soft-Hard style and to help develop basics for sparring.

This workshop will review the basic pattern and introduce the hooking and linking patterns. It is suitable for students of all ages who have passed or are learning Shang Xia Zhi.
